11.23.2010

Pescaterian apartment Thanksgiving meal before we all left for break - everything was made from scratch! We ended up eating at 11pm. Made by M, S, J, K.

Pumpkin pie preparations - fall colors.

Lemon and rosemary baked salmon.

Dinner rolls

Mashed potatoes with parsely

Green bean casserole with caramelized onions

Our meal, including delicious butternut squash soup made by S with a strainer because we don't have a blender or food processor.

Dessert: traditional pumpkin pie

You don't want to know how long it took to figure out how to take this photo.

M, J and K went to Cinnaholic one weekend (sorry you were home and not here that weekend, S!) to try out their vegan cinnamon rolls:

Vanilla frosting with raspberries and brown sugar & oatmeal crumble topping. I'm pretty sure there's a cinnamon roll somewhere under there...

Hazlenut frosting with chocolate chips and brownie topping. Did you know you get a discount if you bring in your own reusable dish / container?!

"Baby buns" - we went right before they closed so they gave us free mini-cinnamon rolls that were left.

Home-made naan from scratch! Used this recipe but skipped the roasted garlic butter part because though it sounded amazing, it also sounded like a lot of work. Made by K.

We decided to try this minestrone soup recipe and it turned out great, plus it only took 30 minutes. Unfortunately we didn't have any normal crusty bread to pair with it, but we made do with a walnut bread loaf from a dumpster dive "foraging" expedition. Made by S and K.

Totally unrelated: Carefully balanced...

11.11.10

K's friend JY came over to help make chard pie. The chard was harvested by an urban agriculture class on campus (aka free and organic!). This was the first pie crust from scratch we've used that doesn't have any butter, and it turned out pretty well minus the accidental over-baking. Made by K and JY.

10.27.2010

Friends and guest chefs SL and ES came over to help make an apple pie. It was a special occasion, because believe it or not it was SL's first time using a vegetable peeler and also her first time making apple pie.

Coating apple slices in brown sugar and cinnamon.

ES cutting pie dough into strips for the lattice top.

Our pie turned out pretty well, but we used a different crust recipe so it was not as flaky as usual. Check out the artfully partially woven lattice crust!

Trader Joe's cornbread mix with sprinkles on one side, because not everyone likes sprinkles. Also note the ring of oil around the edge, because we greased that pan generously. Made by J.
